In this news cycle

January 11th, 2007 by May

In the past few days, there’s been two big news items in my blog world news cycle.

Item One

Apple’s iphone being reported by just about every tech related site out there. This is just a snippit of coverage from the blogs I read: Blue Flavor, Reaction!, Carsonified!, hicksdesign, Signal vs Noise, Subtraction, JeffCroft.com, etc. etc.

Over the weekend, G tells me his contract with his cell phone company is up. This means he can get a new cell phone. I tell him there’s no need for one.

Jump to Tuesday night:

Me: Oh, if you want to get a new phone, wait until after June with the new apple iphone comes out. It looks really cool.

G: Silly, I don’t need a new phone. And what makes you think (our cell phone provider) will carry it?

I’m silenced. There’s no accounting for when a phone service will carry it in Canada.. and if they do, what makes me think I’ll like their service coverage. Sigh.

Item Two

Blue Moon Fiber Arts being rocked by a moronic bank, no need for me to repeat the reports, just read them here: Yarn Harlot, January One, Knitty Blog.

I’m one of those people dying to try Socks that Rock myself! I was hoping for the socks that rock club membership myself for Xmas. Alas, maybe next year :) wink wink. hint hint.

Now to tie the tech reports and the knit report together, I cannot help but be reminded of Carson Systems’s post about their troubles trying to find a bank to process their payments.

This says two things to me.

  1. There is too much credit card fraud. (Yes, I do realize any is too much…)
  2. Banks are too slow to be able to assess the difference between a legitimate business and a fraud. This is the part that’s so hard to understand. In the case of socks that rock, any google will find a huge fan base and the reason for the number of sales. Boogles the mind how one can f**k that up.
