I’m happy to report that Boyfriend Socks are well on it’s way. This was the progress from after I posted yesterday.

To prevent me from getting too confused, I kept increasing on two needles until it got to be about 40 stitches around when I then switched to four needles.

The pattern is really easy to work with and since I’m cabling without a cable needle, the cables work faster. I am, however, not very proficient on the moving around of cable stitches for 3×3 cables, but I’m getting there. As per usual, the hardest part is trying to remember what to do when you hold to the front vs when you hold to the back. The pattern so far is moving quickly.

It’s nice to be able to try on the sock as you go along. The photo is on my foot, but it fits G’s foot well so far. I think the gauge is good. The toe is a little pointy for my liking, but I’ll try it and see. After all, the determination of if it’s a good toe or not really has to do with how well it fits.

The toe up sock has it’s advantages. I think that it works especially well when there is a complex pattern on the top of the foot. This can give you some assurances of fit and gauge before you get too deep into the pattern. Likewise, a heavy pattern cuff would call for a cuff down sock to make sure that you’re not cutting off circulation at the leg.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions on other toe-up cast ons. I think I’d like to learn them all at some point and decide which I’d prefer. I felt that I had to learn this one and get it to work. I never shy away from a challenge; especially one I’ve imposed on myself.

Further more, I’m knitting again. Nice.

Looking good! Nice pattern and pretty yarn colors. What yarn are you using?
