Our favorite Fish and Chips place: Olde Yorke Fish and Chips.
The first time we went to this place was after hearing about a family going to make special trip to go during the CreativFestival last Autumn. This place must be good, I thought, so that weekend, we went, but they are not open on Sundays! We made a note and went the very next Saturday. The place was packed! It’s a neighbourhood favorite and it’s easy to see why. The English style decor, the excellent service and food. It quickly went on our list of places to come back to.
I like to refer to it as a fancy fish and chips but it really isn’t fancy. The decor and vibe reminds me of what an English pub would be like on a sunday afternoon. Full of families and eats.
Tops: Clam-strips, Fisherman’s Platter.
Added bonus: their enclosed and mostly covered patio is lovely. Great furniture and placemats etc. It’s almost better than the dining room. And none of that uncomfortable tables and seating you usually find on a patio. One of the very few places that I would jump to sit on the patio
.
And after watching about it on Restaurant Makeover, we checked out Reliable Fish and Chips.
They are a cash only business, so go prepared. We went slightly after the lunch rush and had no trouble getting an eat in table. The food arrived quickly and was excellent. I particularly like the fact that the batter was light enough that I could eat it all instead of scraping it off like I do at most places. The Poutine was a nice touch since I don’t like the style of fries that usually accompany fish and chips and well, nothing quite like smothering it in gravy and curds to make it all yummy.
- Verdict:
- Definitely worth going back and will do likely when we are in the neighbourhood. Sadly, that’s just too far away to be very often.

Great. Now I’m hungry for good fish-n-chips. Which, despite being on the edge of the Chesapeake Bay, are darned difficult to find around here. Rats.
My m i hungry now.
