I’ve been slowly getting more interested in lace. From the small lace patterns I’ve been doing in socks and blankets I wanted to explore more yo knitting. It was time to look at some lace in bigger projects. I’m not sure I’d wear the creations but I do love the idea of making them.
I wanted to get some books to read more about the technique. This was about the time when two new lace books came out in publication:
I mentally put the two books on my must have list. I slowly managed to get the both of them. The two are quite similar but covering different types of lace topics. They both include introduction material for the novice (me) and detailed a lot of history and the story of lace. There is a selection of lovely projects to work on and as well as a how to design your own
tutorial.
What I learned from reading the books really helped me with my lace knitting. Learning some of the tricks, etc. This is the whole point right? Learning not only history and looking at great photos, but to learn some technique so you can execute and create/duplicate the lovely patterns you see.
I’d highly recommend these two books for your collection if you’re interested in Lace and don’t yet have them. Victorian Lace Today gets the extra points for having beautiful photos.
Now that I’ve wet my appetite with reading and knitting some lace, I’m starting to keep my eyes open on some more books that might be of interest.
What are your favorite lace knitting books?
