I’ve just finished reading The 5 Patterns of Extraordinary Careers: The Guide for Achieving Success and Satisfaction (Crown Business Briefings)
I took my time reading it and was trying to digest the message as deeply I could. It’s now a prized book in my collection. I wish it was there for me at the beginning of my career. But it’s not too late for me and it’s not too late for you.
It’s the mentor you wish you had when you graduated school.
If you haven’t read it, I’d highly recommend the book. It’s the mentor you wish you had when you graduated school. It’s about how to get more out of your career; how to think more clearly about what you do and be better at it, no matter what your profession. While the types of career profiled are more executive
in nature due to the background of the writers and what they do, I thought that the lessons in the book applies no matter what type of job you do. It’s about how to excel; and I think you can do that and apply the lessons no matter where you are in your career.
I also thought it was very important that they also talked about how to make your work place appeal to develop extraordinarily individuals and how helping their careers helps your business and the retention of your employees. I love to read about smart businesses, smart people. I like to see what lessons can be learned from what they do. How might I apply it to what I wish to accomplish.
I could see now that there were so much more that I could have done in my last job. I just didn’t know how to do it nor that it was important. I didn’t have the book then, and know what I know now. But it’s not too late. I plan on using what I’ve learned from this book. I hope to apply all 5 patterns they’ve identified. But I’m certain even if I manage only a fraction of the lessons learned here, it would be highly beneficial to my career, and in the end, my happiness in life.
This is a must read if you work in Corporate America. But highly recommended to anyone who wants to have a good career. It’s sitting down with leaders in the world today, and getting their best career advice. Not so much by what they say, but by what they do. Spend the hours reading this, and save yourself the years of Learning it as you go
, that is, if you would have learned it at all.
