Finally it’s been blocked and I can deem it a keeper. I believe I have made the perfect hat to match my deep of winter coat. Before I know it, it’ll be middle of January and I’ll be taking Flour out on walks wearing my new hat.
This was my first project where I attempted fair-isle and I believe it was a success.
- Pattern:
- Amy King‘s Fake Isle Hat from Magknits.
- Yarn:
- 80% of 1 skein of Noro Kureyon and 60-80% of 1 skein of Patons SWS in Natural Pink.
- Needles:
- Started on cheap aluminum dpns in size 6 (4.0mm) and ended up using the Bryspun dpns. MUCH BETTER.
- Date Started:
- June 28th, 2007
- Date Finished:
- Knitting: July 18th; Blocking: August 17, 2007
- Modifications:
- I didn’t quite followed the pattern in the top ring since by the time I got there, it was obvious that my hat was going to be BIG. And I needed to decrease at a faster rate. The number of rows of ‘solid’ knitting was a little messed up too. Somehow while I was knitting on the subway, I managed to confuse the direction and got in a row or two too many.
- Will I make it again?
- Not sure, now that I’ve finished that pattern, I feel the need to try something a little different. However, I’m really ready to knit another fair-isle hat and love knitting the fair-isle in the round. I’m not also convinced that deep Canadian winter hats need to be felted, double knit or at least fair-isle! Anything else is going to be NOT warm enough for my head.
Previously seen on July 4th, and July 25th.

I LOVE it. If I didn’t look like such a major dork in hats I’d attempt one myself.
The hat is so cute!! I love the natural colored Noro with the pink SWS. I have a ball of SWTC Karaoke that I may have to use to make this hat now. Great job!
It looks great!
It’s a beautiful hat!
It looks terrific. I’m impressed.
