2007 was when I really first discovered and fell for lace knitting. However, most of the beautiful lace projects are shawls and wraps which I see little chance to wear. The lace-weight yarns also makes for difficult tv knitting as I find that I need extreme concentration. So, I went looking for lace projects which had a majority of lace, something I could wear and using yarn thickness which I could work on while I watch tv at night. I found the pattern in Dayflower Camisole.
I wanted a modelled photo, but the weather’s too cold again. But no point in waiting on sharing the FO until I can model the sweater. Will just have to post a photo when the weather is better.
- Pattern:
- Dayflower Camisole by Angela Hahn
- Yarn:
- Schachenmayr nomotta Punto in Denim
- Needles:
- Denise circular US 7 (4.5mm), Addi Lace Turbos US 5 (3.75mm) for picking up stitches.
- Date Started:
- October 16th, 2007
- Date Finished:
- January 10, 2008
- Modifications:
- To make sure the camisole can fit over my wide shoulders, I made the bottom in the L size and when I got to the section across the chest, I wanted to make sure the fit was correct, and changed the increases to make the medium size. I also misread the instructions while making the straps (that’s what you get for knitting while sick) and had to do the 3 needle bind off on the straps to the pick up on the back instead of making front and back straps and connecting at the top. This means that my lace on the back of the straps are facing the wrong direction, but seriously, I don’t care enough to rip back and make 2 more straps. I think this actually hid my poor 3 needle bind off work. I also think that it should make it more comfortable on my shoulders when I put on my hand bag over my shoulders; the 3 needle bind off is rather thick IMO. I am also a tad bit short on the straps since I’m convinced that they’ll stretch while wearing. I also forgone the twisted cord; I was thinking of using an i-cord, but in the end, it really doesn’t seem like me. I went for a thin scarf as a tie.
- Will I make it again?
- No. But I love it. I don’t think I need to make it again unless I want to make one for someone else.
- Previously Seen:

The pattern was really well written and I loved all the great finishing details she gets us to do. It’s the type of thing I think should be done on more projects. I’m going to keep those details in mind for the future.
I did most of the knitting in October and early November and put it away as the weather got colder. However, with the recent heat wave made it more of an urge to finish it.
I’m really pleased with how it turned out and I have a new wearable item for when the weather heats up. I’m glad that my modifications made it a perfect fit, and I think it is very cute.
The project costs were quite low since the yarn was $4.5 per skein at Mary Maxims, and I used just under 9 skeins. Including cost of pattern, it’s all just under $52, not bad in my opinion. I could not find the yarn called for and emailed Angela for suggestions. I ended up with this substitute since I had easier access to buy this yarn instead. I think the acrylic in the yarn is good to help reduce the weight of this piece, a strong concern with a cotton piece.
And just on a note, no lifelines were used and there were a few times when I had to fix mistakes a few rows back. Most were easy. One error was a major headache no simple missed yo, and the fact that I managed to fix it without tinking made me really happy. It helped that the cotton was not springy or slippery, so that made fixing mistakes less of a struggle.
