If I’m there for a longer trip, I’d likely go back to some of my favorite places to eat. However, even for a short weekend, I’ll always end up sometime at Kramer’s Books and Afterwards. It’s ridiculously busy during most weekends and during the festival, but some how, I always manage to wait for a table. I think it’s much helped that I can browse books while I wait. When I head to the Union Station, I try to catch a meal at B. Smiths
Some other faves: La Tomate, Kinkead’s, California Pizza Kitchen. Many branches, but my first exposure to the chain was in DC. Rosa Mexicano, since I no longer lived in NY.
And while I’m there, I always go to a museum. Ones I’ve visited and enjoyed: National Gallery of Art,International Spy Museum, National Building Museum
Sights I like:
- Embassy Row
- National Geographic
- Dupont Circle
- Tidal Basin
- Union Station
- Washington National Cathedral
- Cherry Blossoms
- The National World War II Memorial
- National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial
We were lucky to have had the chance to see the following before 2001:
- FBI tour
- White House Christmas Tour
