Locker librarian

This has been making the rounds of library/librarian blog. This kid is a reading hero and a true librarian and reader for all the right reasons.

While I applaud this student’s efforts the fact that (s)he has to do this is a sad commentary on the state of some education and society.

I love also how the fact that the school and parents banning the books makes it even more appealing to kids to read them. It’s like they don’t know the first rule of kids, deeming anything bad means they’ll just want to do it even more. I’m actually glad in this way, they are getting the kids to read these classics in a round-about way.

It’s shocking to think that schools and parents are STILL banning books like Catcher in the Rye. Even the Catholic Church has basically stopped banning books — just encourages one NOT to read them.

What’s really sad, though, is that the people banning them have usually not read the books themselves.

But as this young person discovered, banning it is the surest way to promote reading in young people. So it is a good thing, in a twisted way.
